Create a leaderboard

How to create a leaderboard to create a sense of healthy competition and bring more fun into the workplace.

LEADERBOARDS, EXPLAINED

What’s a leaderboard?

A leaderboard is a board with the names (of teams or individuals) and their current scores for a measure/activity, e.g. number of steps walked per day.

OBJECTIVES

Why is a leaderboard a good idea for our workplace?

  • They are fun and easy ways to embed wellbeing into the workday

  • They are a great way to showcase and celebrate ‘top performers’ in activities beyond their roles

  • They support connection and a sense of camaraderie (especially if used at the team level)

  • They tap into our competitive natures to elevate the conversation around wellbeing

HOW TO GET STARTED

  1. Choose your first competition. Examples include:

    1. Team with the most Rituals published on the Ritual Builder website

    2. Team with the highest number of responses to the Rituals email check-in

    3. Team with the most popular (determined by votes) team Ritual idea

    4. Team participating in the most Wellbeing Challenges

    5. Individual participating in the most Wellbeing Challenges

  2. Agree the logistics, including:

    1. ‘Owner’ of the board (who is responsible for keeping it updated)

    2. Location of the board (physical or virtual)

    3. Rules/expectations around use of the board

    4. Budget (if any) for prizes

  3. Communicate the ‘what, why and how’ to all leaders to ensure you have their buy-in and address any questions or concerns

  4. Communicate the ‘what, why and how’ with all staff – keeping it fun! Advertise the prizes (if budget allows)

  5. Invite feedback on the next competition
