Wellbeing Challenges
Back to basics. The start of a new year is a great time to build good habits and set intentions for the year to come. Try one (or more!) of these Groov Wellbeing Challenges to promote the 6 Pillars of Wellbeing in your workplace this January and set yourselves up for a positive 2023!
MOVE: Tweaking what we do to move
Let’s keep it basic – if we can find ways to move that easily fit into our life, we’re more likely to stick to them. This challenge is about building on what we already do to move our bodies.
Ask your people to write a list of all the ways they currently move and then make one small tweak to that activity.
Here are some examples of small tweaks that make a big difference:
Getting off public transport early and walking the rest of the way
Parking further away from your destination
Adding an extra five minutes to your daily exercise routine
Taking the stairs instead of the elevator
CHILL: Device-free lunch break
This challenge is to set a day (or better yet, a week!) where everyone is encouraged to have a ‘device-free’ lunch break. This helps us to be in the moment, to Chill, and also to Enjoy (our food) and Connect (with our colleagues)! Choose a day (or more) which makes sense for your workplace, and communicate far and wide to encourage as many people as possible to take part.
CONNECT: Reserving time to share
For a lot of us, the Christmas period was important for reconnecting with friends and family. Now’s the ideal time to reconnect with our work family - our colleagues! Kick the year off to a good start by dedicating time for your people to reconnect (perhaps over a shared morning tea). Ideally, this will be done in person as there’s something special about that face-to-face connection.
ENJOY: The best things about working here
In the spirit of coming back to basics and keeping things simple, let’s get a sense of your people’s best things about work, and how we can reignite/revamp/reinvigorate those to bring more joy into the workplace. Roll out the below with supporting communications so that people contribute and are engaged, including a timeframe to complete by and sharing the intention behind it.
If on a physical board in the workplace:
Write a heading ‘The best things about working here are…’
Provide sticky notes and pens for people to complete
Provide stickers for people to vote
Review, and consider how you can build on this to bring more joy into the workplace.
If virtual (over your communications channels):
Write a post ‘The best things about working here are…’
Encourage commenting and ‘voting’ by utilising emojis
Review, and consider how you can build on this to bring more joy into the workplace.
For those workplaces familiar with the concept of rituals, consider whether any ideas could be incorporated and added to your Ritual Builder website. For those not yet familiar with the concept of rituals, never fear! You will explore this in the SHOW module.
CELEBRATE: Meeting your Move Pillar challenge
Before you start this challenge, please see our Move Pillar challenge. This challenge is tied to that! Ask your people ‘What’s something simple that you can do to treat yourself? Write it down, share if you are happy to (can be anonymous) and commit to doing so at a certain time once you achieve your Move Pillar challenge.
DO: Embrace the younger you
We all did more things ‘just for the sake of it’ when we were younger. Not necessarily to accomplish anything - but because we enjoy it. This challenge is about encouraging your people to do one thing that they did when they were younger that has slipped. Baking, colouring in, listening to music… whatever it is, ask your people to try – just once – to do that one thing again. As always, we recommend sharing this (to ensure we hit the Connect and Celebrate pillars, too!) on the preferred communications channels to help with engagement.
